About Us
About Aasra — India's First Adaptive Clothing Brand
Why Aasra Exists
Every morning, millions of people across India face a challenge that most of us never think about: getting dressed. For elderly parents, for someone recovering from hip replacement surgery, for a stroke patient managing one-sided weakness — putting on a salwar or a simple t-shirt can be painful, exhausting, or simply impossible without help.
Standard clothing is designed for people who are fully mobile. It requires lifting arms overhead, bending at the hip, stepping into trousers, and manipulating small buttons and zips. For anyone whose mobility is limited — even temporarily — these everyday actions become daily obstacles.
Aasra was founded to solve this problem. We design adaptive clothing specifically for the Indian wardrobe — the kurtis, nighties, pyjamas, and kurtas that Indian men and women actually wear at home and in daily life — rebuilt with features that make dressing possible again.
What We Do Differently
Adaptive clothing is not a new concept globally. But in India, it was essentially unavailable — particularly garments designed around Indian styles of dress. Aasra is India's first adaptive clothing brand focused on Indian everyday wear.
Every garment we make incorporates one or more of the following features:
- Velcro closures — replacing buttons, hooks, and zips with fastenings that open and close with minimal hand strength
- Front-open designs — tops and nighties that drape over the body and fasten at the front, eliminating overhead dressing
- Side-open seams — lower body garments that open along the full side, allowing dressing without stepping in or lifting legs
- Tearaway panels — full-length seams for bedridden patients and assisted dressing
- Catheter access ports — discreet openings that preserve dignity for catheter users
Critically, our garments look like normal clothing. A front-open Aasra kurti looks like a regular kurti. Our adaptive nighties look like regular nighties. The features are built into the design — not announced by it.
Who We Serve
Aasra's customers include:
- Post-surgery patients recovering from hip replacement, knee surgery, cardiac surgery, or spinal procedures
- Elderly individuals with reduced grip strength, joint stiffness, or balance challenges
- Stroke and Parkinson's patients managing tremors, spasticity, or one-sided weakness
- Wheelchair users requiring clothing designed for seated posture
- Bedridden patients and those receiving full-time home or nursing care
- Family caregivers who assist a loved one with daily dressing
We also hear from families who purchase Aasra clothing as a gift for an elderly parent — often the first time the family has acknowledged a dressing difficulty that the parent was too proud to raise themselves.
Our Commitment
We believe that dignified, independent dressing is not a luxury — it is a fundamental part of quality of life during recovery and ageing. Losing the ability to dress yourself is one of the earliest and most emotionally significant losses of independence. Adaptive clothing cannot reverse the underlying condition, but it can restore one piece of daily life that matters enormously.
Every product at Aasra is designed with that purpose in mind. We work with feedback from patients, caregivers, and occupational therapists to continuously improve our designs. We keep our prices accessible — starting from ₹999 — because adaptive clothing should be available to every family managing a recovery or long-term care situation, not only those who can afford specialist products.
