Stroke Recovery Adaptive Clothing
After a stroke, one side of the body is often affected by weakness or paralysis -- a condition called hemiplegia. Dressing with hemiplegia is difficult when using standard clothing. Buttons on the affected side cannot be fastened with one hand. Pulling clothing over the head requires two functioning arms. Trouser legs that need to be stepped into become a fall risk when balance is compromised. The standard physiotherapy approach -- affected side first, unaffected side last -- is only possible if the clothing actually allows it.
Aasra's stroke recovery collection is designed for one-handed dressing and hemi-dressing technique. Wide side openings allow the affected arm or leg to be dressed first, as recommended by occupational therapists. Velcro fastenings close with one hand and a flat palm press. No buttons, no zips, no overhead movements. The garments support independent dressing at whatever stage of recovery the patient is at.
